NUTRITION & EXTREME CONDITIONS

Practical advices

Before the departure, prepare yourself with a well-balanced food and low sugars (pasta, rice, semolina ) as well as a training according to your project.
Don't be careless with your equipment which has to be comfortable and suited to your activity (shoes, rucksack, sleeping bag).

How much food do you need to take?
Take the meals and breakfasts in refuges into account. Calculate your food needs for each person an allow a little more in case there would be something unexpected and choose the food items according to their volume and the weight.

Water balance
More than food, be careful to drink water regularly and as much as you want. Be sure that you have enough of water to drink and to rehydrate the meals if you take lyophilised or dehydrated meals (the necessary quantity for one meal and one desert is 40cl on average for one person). Everyone has to have about one and a half litre of water per a day.

Note: In physical efforts, the loss of water corresponds to a loss of heat which enables the body to keep the same temperature. The best solution is to drink small quantities of water (15cl) every quarter of an hour.
Important to know : an insufficient hydration may problematic and give aches. The water deficit has serious results : neuromuscular troubles, states of confusion.
